Salt and Wine Tour in La Rioja Region

In this full day tour, we combine a visit to a place that dates back to Roman times and one of the most avant-garde wineries, Marques de Riscal.

Leaving early in the morning, we will head to the region of La Rioja and go to Añana, where the first visit will take place. Here you will learn about the process of extraction and manufacture of this product, which was already used by the Romans when they arrived in this area over 6000 years ago. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to taste some of the different types of salt, from the so-called “flakes” to the different combinations, such as salt from olive oil, salt from wine or salt from turmeric. A therapeutic salt treatment is also offered.

The well-known local Marqués de Riscal winery, designed by Frank Gehry (the same architect who designed the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao) is our second stop. Here, we will visit the winery hotel, learn more about the winemaking process and taste some of their best wines.

To better understand the wine culture in the region, we will go to a more familiar and welcoming winery. In this place, the guide will teach you the history of the family and their ancestors. There will also be a wine tasting, before heading to the restaurant to try a delicious typical menu, based on a local style potato stew, delicious grilled lamb chops, both paired with a spectacular Rioja wine.

Later we will start our return to San Sebastian, where we will finish the intense day.
