We’ve got everything arranged to take you on a path brimming with emotions, discoveries, and idyllic pleasures. Come along for an extraordinary adventure!
Art and Nature at Chillida Leku
What better way to kick off our journey than by immersing ourselves in the captivating Chillida Leku Museum, a true artistic oasis just 15 minutes from San Sebastián? This remarkable enclave encapsulates the essence of Eduardo Chillida’s work, the genius behind the iconic ‘Peine del Viento,’ a sculpture situated in San Sebastián.
Outside, Chillida Leku offers a fusion of art and nature, creating a magnificent open-air museum. The space showcases 40 sculptures crafted from corten steel, stone, and granite, along with a 16th-century historic building, the Zabalaga farmhouse. The farmhouse was conceived by the sculptor as the perfect home to house his creations.
Through this visit, we’ll delve into details of the artist’s life and work while interacting with some of his masterpieces.
Balenciaga Museum in Getaria
Our next stop transports us to the birthplace of two legends: Cristóbal Balenciaga, the master of haute couture, and Juan Sebastián Elcano, the intrepid Basque navigator who circumnavigated the globe by ship in the 16th century. Welcome to Getaria, a charming coastal town!
In this delightful coastal town, we’ll visit the Balenciaga Museum, where the master’s most representative works are housed. His immeasurable contribution to the history of fashion will be evident in each of the creations on display. It’s a fantastic opportunity to revel in the precision, technique, and perfectionism of designs that transformed the concept of haute couture. Let’s not forget his contributions, such as the tunic dress, baby doll dress, or innovative balloon sleeves.
Givenchy referred to Balenciaga as “the architect of haute couture,” Christian Dior called him “the master of us all,” and Coco Chanel classified him as “the only couturier.” A source of pride for the Basques!
Delights of Getaria
Getaria is not only the birthplace of Balenciaga but also the hometown of the historic Juan Sebastián Elcano, an unforgettable figure in our history after becoming the first navigator to circumnavigate the globe by ship in the 16th century. This event challenged the prevailing belief that the Earth was flat, altering the perception of the world.
Furthermore, we find ourselves in a unique fishing village globally renowned for its grilled fish and distinctive txakoli, a fresh and fruity wine perfect for accompanying seafood. A stroll through the cobblestone streets of Getaria will transport you, like a genuine journey through time, to the mediaeval era until you reach the harbour. There, you can savour delicious grilled fish while enveloped in the marvellous landscape of the Cantabrian coast, and the magic of Getaria merges into a multisensory experience.
Return to San Sebastián
After this culinary adventure, we’ll set out on the journey back to San Sebastián, traversing the spectacular coast connecting Getaria and Zarautz. Following the panoramic views the route provides, we’ll wrap up our day of discoveries at our clients’ accommodation. This marks the end of a day that we are confident will be etched into your memory! Get ready for an unforgettable experience!
